Abandoned Narayana Gurukul In waynad

Guru Nithya, a spiritual successor of Sree Nataraja Guru, founded the East-West University of
Brahmavidya. One of the disciples of Guru Nataraja, John Leshore decided to build a Gurukula near the Pookode Lake in Wayanad. (Pookode is a natural freshwater lake nestling amid evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 meters above sea level. It is 15 km away from Kalpetta. It is the second largest and highest freshwater lake in Kerala.) For a long period,
it was once a knowledge hub for many students all over India and abroad. John also known
by the name “Swami Asharyashcharya” and his disciples were teaching art and Advaita Vedanta in
the Gurukula. In addition, it had an excellent art gallery and a meditation hall.

Once this was a knowledge hub for so many students from India and abroad for a long time John
was also known as Swami asharyashcharya and his disciples used this place for teaching art and
Advaita Vedanta. Also, it was having a world-class art gallery and meditation hall as well.
In the month of December 2017, I visited Wayanad and met some of the old disciples of John. I went around all the Gurukula premises, and stayed in the house of Gurus disciple Abu and met Shivam with the guidance of Swami Sahaja Njana. All were well-known artists and disciples of John.

This beautiful Gurukula situated in the banks of Pookkodu Lake is now abandoned and there is no caretaker. There were many ruins that have become a meal for white ants and other creatures. Some of the photographs that I have taken during my stay are attached below.

Also, we can see a temple on the banks of Pookkodu Lake by Guru. Some of the pictures I have taken
from Pookkodu Gurukul.
